Kirill Burlov began his artistic journey in the UK performing as a soloist with Northern Ballet Theatre, Michael Clark Dance Company and The Cathy Marston Project. In his time at Rambert between 2007 and 2014, he excelled both as a dancer and as a choreographer.
Kirill has collaborated and produced work with artists such as Khadijah von Zonenburg, Abigail Reynolds, Alkamie, Andrejs Zagars, Annelie Nederberg, Charlotte Ginsborg and Kristaps Petersons. Having worked with a diverse range of creative minds, Kirill truly believes that creative collaboration with other artists and art forms is essential for an artist’s professional growth, and for the development of new ideas and projects.
He is currently producing work for the Cheltenham, Lichfield and Wilderness Festivals in the UK, as well as for dance and art festivals and performances in Latvia.
Ajay had his first brush with the performing arts in London in 2002 whilst still studying for his post-graduate when he was picked to appear as the lead character in the open air production of Sherlock Holme’ s The Man With The Twisted Lips, directed by Prof B J Rahn. Since then, he got so hooked that, after graduating and whilst still working full-time in a marketing day job, he took an evening job as Front of House Assistant in 2004 at the St Martin’s ‘The Mousetrap’ - what he then saw as a foot in the door in the theatre world - where he worked until 2009. During this time he met theatre director Michael Batz who later took him under his wings and gave him an opportunity to try his hands as an Assistant Producer in Amabel and The Cage. A stroke of luck later brought him in touch with Rambert’ s lead dancer Kirill Burlov in 2006, who introduced him to the contemporary dance circuit. Ajay trained in acting under Shola Adewusi at the Bush House Acting Group. Working alongside Kirill he is now viewed as a crucial team member of the Baltic Art Form.
